The Missed Moment

Actually capturing that moment is the culmination of so many things. When done right the final image should bring with it an allure that the picture was taken with ease. In reality for every moment captured many more were missed. Everything plays a role: education, preparation, assignment, equipment, time, luck, being at the right place at the right time, and it all goes out the window when you miss.

The moment can’t be repeated and can’t be re-shot you have missed it forever. In this way photojournalism is the only still form of the documentation of human life. You have to move on and analyze if the mistake could have been avoided. It’s about eliminating as many missed shots as possible so you can focus on getting a picture that conveys what the subject is feeling as well as what you are seeing.
